San Antonio, Get Out in the Cool, Wild Outdoors

Spring in San Antonio is a wonderful time to visit our outdoor nature attractions.  The animals are much more active when the weather is cooler, especially earlier in the day during the month of April.  Our guests, Cheri and Dave, visited a couple of San Antonio's Wild Spots, and we'd love to share them with you.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch

The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch offers a very unique experience because it's a wildlife safari that you are able to drive through without leaving the comfort of your vehicle.  When you purchase your ticket, you are given food to feed the animals.  They come up to your vehicle for the food, but feed with caution. Visitors are warned to keep hands inside the vehicle’s windows.  We found the emus to be the most aggressive.  The photo opportunities are abundant as there are no fences or bars to worry about getting in your way.  Daily admission information is Adults 12 and over are $22.00, Seniors (65 and over) are $20.00, Children 3-11 are $13.50, Military/Policemen/Firefighters are $18.00.  Children under 3 are free.  (See discount coupon below.) Another nearby attraction (just next door) is the Natural Bridge Caverns...an easy do on the same day as the Wildlife Park.

The San Antonio Zoo 

The San Antonio Zoo celebrated its centennial “Zootennial” in 2014! For one hundred years, the Zoo has provided remarkable
animal care and continues to nurture a diverse and thriving plant collection, while consistently offering a recreational and educational experience to over one million guests annually. … Open 365 days a year. Seniors over the age of 62 and children ages 3 – 11 are $11.25. Adults ages 12 and older are $14.25. Children two and younger are free. •  The Zoo is home to over 9,000 animals representing 750 species of animals on 56 acres. Check out the collection and exhibits.  

•  Check out the visitor tips prior to going to the zoo. 

• The bird aviary is a must see when at the zoo.  Walking on suspended walkways so you can see the birds on the ground and in the air is a very unique experience. 

• When parking in the zoo train parking lot for free, you can also take a ride on the zoo train for only $3.50 per person.  Children under 3 are no charge.  This will take you through Breckenridge Park with stops at Witte Museum, the Japanese Sunken Garden and Kiddie Park.

Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo

The Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo, which used to be the Snake Farm Zoo, is located in New Braunfels, TX which is close to San Antonio.  There are over 500 animals that can be seen here at one time.  This is a zoo and snake farm together so that you get two admissions for the price of one.  Among other things, there are primates, alligators, exotic hoof stock, big cats, birds and snakes are available to see when visiting here.  Photo albums are available on the web site.  Pricing to visit for Adults is $12.75, Children 3-12 are $9.75 and Children 2 and under are free.
